Generally people tend to think that any cleaner or disinfectant can be used to disinfect our home. But in many occasions it often happens that the lack of use of specialized cleaning products results in a bad cleaning in our home, and therefore germs and bacteria are not eliminated from our appliances and surfaces.
Did you know that the washing machine, dishwasher and refrigerator are where bacteria and microorganisms are most concentrated, I know, it sounds strange, but yes. And this occurs due to the humidity that is present in these appliances, with the help of this proliferate easily.
It sounds scary, doesn’t it, that where we store our food, where we wash our clothes and where we wash our kitchen utensils is where most bacteria are concentrated. However, eliminating these bacteria is not usually an exhausting job, as it only requires small tasks and periodic washing to keep these microorganisms at bay. With the use of suitable products, either homemade or laboratory products, we will achieve a complete cleaning.
But how is the cleaning of these appliances done? Here are some recommendations
Washing machine: It would not cross our minds that it is an appliance that accumulates germs and bacteria, since it is constantly filled with water and soap, but it is. The detergent we use does not clean the drum of this, even if we increase the amount of detergent we would not be doing anything, and on the contrary it is possible that the excess of soap causes us some dermatological problems, so it is not a solution.
To clean it we must start with the soap dispenser, which is always wet and has places where germs easily accumulate. To clean it properly we must remove the soap dispenser from our washing machine and immerse it for 5 minutes in white vinegar and detergent, when we finish doing this, with a toothbrush we clean the corners and hard to reach places. Finally, we wash it with water, dry it and put it back in our washing machine.
After doing this, we continue with the rubber that fits the door of our washing machine, which by excess moisture is usually filled with mold, bacteria and germs, so that this does not happen to us just dry this area with a cloth after each cycle. Another recommendation would be to keep the washing machine door ajar after each wash.
And finally, to clean the inside of our washing machine, it is enough to program the washing of the drum, since this cleans uniformly and eliminates the germs that can be present in this one.
Dishwasher: Since this appliance works at high temperatures, the disinfection work is much less, even so, it is important to perform the cleaning properly to avoid making mistakes.
One of the most common mistakes is not removing food residues from our kitchen utensils properly. Not removing them properly is a problem, since they serve as food for bacteria, as well as accumulate in the filter and prevent our dishes from being completely clean.
It is very important to clean the filter every two weeks with soap and water using a toothbrush to clean it properly.
To keep the interior impeccable, it is enough to put it to work totally empty (without forgetting the soap capsules). This way we will be able to disinfect and avoid bad smells. Another thing to keep in mind is that the steam that comes out of our dishwasher usually contains fungal spores and microorganisms, so it is very important to wait a while after each wash to open the door, or, when opening it, move away a little so as not to breathe all these spores. Once we open it, it is prudent to leave the door open so that the humidity does not stagnate.
Refrigerator: In our refrigerator bacteria are naturally present in raw foods. Although it is an appliance to preserve our food for a longer period of time, frost and poor cleaning can cause food to putrefy faster.
To reduce the frost in our refrigerator, the simplest thing to do is to avoid opening the door of our refrigerator many times, or, on the contrary, keep the door open for a long time, with either of these two methods we will reduce the frost produced by our appliance. However, it is also advisable to perform a thorough cleaning every three months.
It is of great importance that for this quarterly cleaning not to be exhausting, we do it when there is little food in our refrigerator, so we can easily empty it, and with this proceed with the disinfection process. For this we will use baking soda (3 tablespoons), which we will dilute in warm water, and we will apply with a cloth on the walls of our refrigerator.
And as for the compartments or shelves that this one has, the most appropriate thing to do is to remove them from the refrigerator and clean them in the faucet with soap and water, and before putting them back into the refrigerator we must dry them well. After all this we can put our food back in the refrigerator, and to finish with this cleaning, when all our food is inside it is important to clean the gaskets and rubbers of our refrigerator so that dirt does not accumulate.
